The Chelsea star picked up the injury during his side’s 2-2 draw with Burnley on Monday night and will miss the rest of the season. After being assessed by Chelsea’s medical team, it was decided Hudson-Odoi needed surgery to repair his Achilles. Hudson-Odoi delivered a message from his hospital bed on Wednesday, branding the operation a success.
He said: ‘Thank you for all the messages and the support you’ve been sending me, I really appreciate it. ‘I am doing better, I am feeling better, so thank you very much. The road to recovery now.’ The teenager is expected to miss the next six months to injury and must watch from the sidelines as Chelsea challenge to make the top four in the Premier League and win the Europa League.
The injury may also derail Hudson-Odoi’s desire to move abroad in the summer transfer window. Hudson-Odoi failed to push through a switch to Bayern Munich last January, but the German giants were expected to reignite their interest in the attacker this summer. Chelsea have been working to convince Hudson-Odoi to sign a new long-term contract, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the 2019/20 campaign.
