Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller admits they’re feeling the pressure of the Bundesliga title battle following a narrow 1-0 win over 10-man Werder Bremen.
After Bremen lost Milos Veljkovic to a red card, Bayern dominated on route to victory at the Allianz Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Despite their dominance, however, the Bavarians were left frustrated in their attempts to breakdown a stubborn 10-man Bremen defence and seemed close to dropping vital points.
But defender Niklas Sule rose to the occasion in the 75th-minute to grab a crucial winner for Bayern after his deflected shot from outside the area found the back of the net.
The Germany international’s effort was enough to send Bayern four points clear at the top of the Bundesliga from Borussia Dortmund, who play SC Freiburg this afternoon.
Speaking afterwards, Muller admitted the pressure of the title battle has taken its toll on Bayern.
“The pressure is there, we’re feeling it as we all desperately want to win the Bundesliga title,” Muller told Bundesliga.com.
“After half-time, we had to up the pace, which we did, even though the result was still relatively close.”
Bayern have now won 15 of their last 17 matches as they chase a seventh successive Bundesliga title.
The 27-time champions can wrap things up by winning all four of there remaining fixtures.
“We’re four points clear, but nothing’s decided yet,” said Bayern manager Niko Kovac.
“We’ve got four games left. It’d be great if Freiburg can get a result against Dortmund on Sunday – that perhaps makes our task a little easier, but we have to focus on ourselves. We have to win all four games. If we do that, we’ll be champions anyway.”
A trip to Nuremberg awaits Bayern next weekend in the Bundesliga after facing Bremen again in the DFB Cup semi-finals on Wednesday.
Hannover, RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt will be then be coming up afterwards.
